General information

Patterned glass is the special type of decorative glass with an iterative textured pattern on one of its sides.

Patterned glass is very popular material for interior decoration as it combines two important properties — ornamentality and visual limitation. Applied pattern partly creates light dispersion, limiting through visibility. But at the same time it does not prevent light transfer.

Patterned glass is used for glazing of windows and doors, interior partitions, various types of furniture. Pattered glass can be colourless and coloured. Stuff dyed (tinted) glass; opal glass and wired glass are also referred to patterned glass.

Light transmission of colourless patterned glass is 75 — 80%; coefficient of light transmission for coloured patterned glass depends on pattern type and tint:

• colourless glass — 80%
• orange glass — 40–45%
• yellow glass — 50–55%
• golden yellow glass — 60–65%
• light blue glass — 60–65%
• dark blue glass — 30–40%
• green glass — 35–45%
• purple glass — 50–60%

Patterned glass is produced by rolling process at the machines, upper roll of which has a certain pattern. Coloured sheets are usually tinted along the full thickness.

Wired glass is the glass, inside of which there is a steel wire mesh (or wire with coating of alloying materials). It is important to use wired glass in those cases, when it is necessary to prevent glass pieces from falling out under full or partial glass destruction.

Wired glass is usually applied at industrial enterprises and in door glazing of building entrances, balcony ways and window openings. Wired glass distinguishes by high strength and durability. Patterned and polished glass of different colours can be used as part of wired glass. To produce wired glass a special metal net with hexagonal and quadrangular meshes is put into glass raw material. Coloured wired glass is produced from glass mass that is tinted with metal oxides.
